Pink Australian Clay (Bulk) Pink Australian Clay has a lower iron content than the red clay hence the lighter colour. This essential minerals to help replenish and regenerate the epidermis of the skin to create softened and conditioned skin with a healthy glow. The clay can be blended with other clays for different properties and effect or used as a stand-alone additive for face and body masks. To form a paste, mix approximately a teaspoon of Pink Australian Clay with 1/3 tsp of water to form a paste. Mix until colour is unform. Due to natural variation this product in its dry powder form may appear to look extremely pale, however when incorporated into formulas or mixed with a liquid the colour develops into a deep pink colour. Whilst mixing with liquid one may notice slight streaking of colour, which is normal, and the product should be mixed until a uniform colour is achieved. Note: In late 2018 the mine extracting the Australian pink clay was closed due to exhausting the natural clay desposits. In order to maintain supply of the same specification product New Directions commenced manufacturing the pink clay from Australian mined kaolin and Iron oxide pigment. This produces a clay with the same characteristics and chemistry and the original product but via a slightly different process. Group: Clay. Alternative Names: Kaolin, Aqua, CI 77491, CI 77499. Plantaserv C (Bulk) This preservative is chemically similar to our Plantaserv D but it has been produced using a slightly different process which allows it to be used in some certified organic formulations unlike the Plantaserv D. The certifying bodies that have approved this preservative are the OFC, COSMOS and Ecocert. Origin: Plant based. Heat Stability: Relatively good can be added into your product at temperatures up to 80C. Dose Rate: 4% is the maximum amount that can be used. 3-4% is a typical addition rate. pH range: 4.5-5.5 is ideal but we have had success with products that have pH ranges slightly outside of this (3-6). Always be sure to run Preservative Efficacy Testing before settling on your formulation. Microbes Targeted: Broad-Spectrum (Bacteria, Yeast and Mould). Like many natural preservatives, this is slower to act than some of our synthetic options and as such could become overwhelmed in more challenging environments when used as the stand-alone preservative. We recommend an evidence-based approach to optimising your product's preservation strategy and as such advise undertaking stability and micro testing to inform your formulating decisions in this area. Group: Preservatives. Alternative Names: Glycerin, Aqua, Sodium Levulinate, Sodium Anisate. EINECS: 200-289-5, 231-791-2, 243-378-4, 208-634-1. CAS No. 56-81-5, 7732-18-5, 19856-23-6, 536-45-8. Our Preservative Master Data Sheet available at the top of this section showcases this preservative vs others that we have on offer allowing you to compare features and work out what is best for your needs. The only way that anyone can know if a particular preservative is working in your formula is to run tests and we recommend the Preservative Efficacy Test to give you this data. Preservative Efficacy Testing is quite expensive but it will enable you to fulfil your requirements of placing safe cosmetics onto the market. New Directions Australia

Salicylic Acid (Bulk) Salicylic Acid is a restricted active and can be dangeous or even toxic if used innappropriately. Some people have salicylate allergies and can react to products containing this chemistry. Information: This additive is used in skin-care products for treating acne and pimple-prone skin, as well as various skin problems, such as warts, corns, calluses and psoriasis. It is also commonly used in dandruff shampoos. This is because of the acid's ability to cause skin cells to slough off, facilitating new skin cell growth, unclogging pores and removing overgrown skin cells. Usage Instructions: A maximum level of 2% is permitted in adult formulations that are to be left on the skin and 3% as a max for rinse off products. The ingredient is not to be used in products targeting children under the age of three except as part of the preservative or shampoo. Formulating Tips: Salicylic acid can be very tricky to add into an emulsion formulation (A cream or lotion) as it is not that soluble in water or oils. One option is to neutralise it into sodium salicylate by reacting it with Sodium Hydroxide. This will fizz in water until the reaction is complete, the salt is just as effective for the skin as the acid but has less solubility issues. Otherwise you can try dispersing it beforehand into a suitable solvent. Propylene Glycol and glycerine can help as can adding what is known as a hydrotrope (to improve solubility). Examples of this are urea and/ or Sodium Citrate. Group: Active. Alternative Names: Salicylic Acid. EINECS: 200-712-3. CAS No. 69-72-7. Pack Sizes: 100G; 500G; 1KG; 5KG; 20KG and above upon request. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (Bulk) Form: Powder/Flake. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is an anionic surfactant derived from coconut fatty acid and sustainable palm that are used in many cosmetic and personal care products. By helping water to mix with oil and dirt, this surfactant is great at rinsing dirt away from the skin and hair leaving both feeling fresh and clean. Activity Level: Minimum of 85% surfactant solids with up to 15% free fatty acids and some residual water. Material Origin: A reaction between Coconut Fatty Acid and Sodium Isethionate. Sodium Isethinonate is created via a reaction between Sodium Hydroxide (lye), Sodium Bisulfide and Ethylene Oxide. It is made from sustainable palm oil. Applications: Use in skin and hair cleansing preparations. Use Levels: Up to 53% as supplied in rinse off formulations and up to 17% in leave-on. How to use: As this is a dry surfactant it can be blended into a dry formulation such as a dry shampoo, bath bomb, powdered facial cleanser or equivalent or can be added to the water phase of a standard, water based cleansing product (shampoo, shaving product, cleanser etc). Caution: This ingredient has quite a low water solubility so it is far better placed in a creamy shampoo base rather than clear. It is also really well suited to shaving creams, creamy cleansers and other emulsified cleansing solutions. Group: Surfactants. Alternative Names: Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Coconut Acid,Sodium Isethionate,Aqua. EINECS: 263-052-5, 262-978-7,216-343-6,231-791-2. CAS No. 61789-32-0, 61788-47-4,1562-00-1,7732-18-5. Formulating tips for surfactant products: Adding vegetable oils to surfactant based products often causes stability issues and as such we recommend thorough stability testing of formulations that you create that contain oils. In general an oil-enriched cleansing product will only have between 0.1-2% oil phase in total. Essential oils can also interfere with the stability of the formula and may occasionally thin the product. It is best to start off with a small amount of essential oil (0.1-0.2%) and work up from there, observing any changes in viscosity and clarity. It is usual for essential oils and fragrances to be between 0.1-1% of the formula. Group: Surfactants. Urea (Bulk) Urea has long been used in skincare for its unique combination of keratolytic and powerful hydrating properties. This keratolytic (exfoliating) property can be used in cosmetics to help with the rapid turnover of skin cells leading to the improvement of dry and scaly skin. Urea is also part of your skin's "Natural Moisturising Factor" (NMF). The NMF being composed of Lactic Acid and Lactate Salts (usually Sodium Lactate), Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (PCA), Urea, Metal Ions, Sugars and Amino Acids. This makes urea both a humectant and moisturizer that promotes rehydration of the skin and helps to replenish natural moisture content of the skin. On top of this, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent on skin that may have a damaged barrier function. Numerous studies have proven the benefits of this ingredient in treating dry, damaged and irritated skin. Ideal for use In: Creams and lotions for dry skin. After-sun products. Shampoos and body washes. Body scrubs. Cracked heal and elbow moisturizers. Hand and foot creams. Formulation Guidelines: Add to the water phase of formulations. Not heat sensitive. Can be disruptive to many emulsification and thickening systems. We recommend trialling use of urea in small batches to avoid wasting raw materials. Group: Active. Alternative Names: Urea. EINECS: 200-315-5. CAS No. 57-13-6. Pack Sizes: 100G; 500G; 1KG; 5KG; 20KG and above upon request. Product ID: RMAAUREA. Material Origin: Synthetic. Recommended Usage: 2 - 15%Solubility: Water soluble, also partially soluble in ethanol and glycerineFormula Tips: Urea is very salty and can substantially compromise emulsion stability if the emulsion hasn't been designed with Urea in mind. If you are considering adding this to your formula start with low levels and split your batch into two, trying the urea in one half and not in the other so you can benchmark the changes that the addition of Urea has on your formula. Wattle Seed Powder - Australian Native Extract (Bulk) Most Australians know that when the bush turns yellow with wattle blossom, winter is nearly over! There are close to 1000 species of wattle (Acacia) in Australia ranging from small shrubs to impressively large trees. It would be fair to say that this plant species actually holds Australia together as these are often the first plants to colonise an area, forming deep root systems that can withstand periods of drought and flooding rains. Wattle seeds have been harvested and utilised as both food and medicine sources by many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nations over the last 65,000 years. The seeds are a great protein, fibre and carbohydrate source as well as providing a wide range of micronutrients such as Magnesium, Iron, Zinc and Potassium. In terms of skin care, this super-seed has been used to soothe and calm irritated skin. There are many names for Wattle including Coojong, Panjang, Wilyawa (Noongar); Buhyigan, Gibay-Gibay, Jumaw and Jayi (Bundjalung); Garal, Yulumbang, Gidya, Giigandul (Wiradjuri) and Wadanjuli (Gadigal)... Preparing the extract for use: Add equal parts powder to water to create a concentrated active. Leave to steep in hot water before filtering and preserving (if you are making a stock solution to use at another time). The water will turn to a brown colour as the infusion progresses. The 50% active filtrade (or tincture) can then be added to your water-containing product at levels between 1-20%. Group: Extracts. Alternative Names: Acacia Victoriae Seed Extract.
