| Aloe Vera [200:1] Powder - Fruit & Herbal Powder Extracts (Bulk) | This is a 200:1 powdered aloe which means that to re-constitute it so that it is a single strength Aloe Liquid you need to add only 0.5g of Aloe Powder to 99.5g of Water (0.5% to 99.5%). The Aloe Powder will completely dissolve into water but will not form a gel. This is because the pulverising and powder processing breaks up the complex sugar chains into smaller chain lengths that can no longer form a gel. This does not impact in the performance of the Aloe in your product though as the minerals and moisturising properties remain. To thicken your Aloe Water we recommend adding something like Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose or Carbomer. These thickeners will swell in water to form a gel-like base that can then be used as a facial serum base or just as a soothing Aloe Gel. Otherwise we do sell a ready-made aloe gel. In addition to thickning the Aloe Water the water will also need preserving. We have a range of preservatives available to suit a wide range of ingredient philosophies and product asperations. Use Level: Typically re-constituted at 0.5% in water but can be used at any level between 0.05-5%. Solubility: Fully water soluble with no residue. Forms a colourless, water-thin solution when re-hydrated. Compatibility: Generally compatible with most other actives, can be too salty for some emulsions and can cause creams to become destabilised in some cases. | Corn Starch (Bulk) | Information: Corn Starch is the starchy part of the maize (corn) grain and is put to use in cosmetics as a thickener in emulsion based products, an absorbing agent for oils in dry shampoos, and a feel modifier. Physical Form: Fine Powder (non nano). Application: Use between 0.2-2% in your finished creams or lotions to help absorb excess grease on the skin, to mattify the texture, to help reduce product stickiness or to give a slightly silky feel to the end product. | Emulsifying Wax Vegetable (Bulk) | This easy-to-use emulsifying wax is derived from plant-based alcohols and sugars. It is typically used to help form oil-in-water emulsions such as lotions, creams, foundations, creamy face and body masks and other emulsified products. Material Origin : It is derived from sustainable palm source, wheat and corn. Appearance: Pastilles or Flakes. Use Level: Typically at 3-6% as the emulsification system in a cream. Can be used at higher levels where it will thicken the emulsion substantially, however using more than 6% in most formulations may lead to formula instability. | Kaolin White Australian Clay (Bulk) | Kaolin is a widely used clay for cosmetic purposes. It won't swell or thicken in water like bentonite clay does so it does require suspending in a water-based product using either a thickening gel agent or an emulsifier. Kaolin is commonly used as the base for clay masks where it provides good coverage and drying capacity. It it common to use Kaolin as a base clay and then add specialist, more active clays over the top of this to provide the activity. Use Levels: 0.5-50% Typically but can be applied to the skin in any concentration once wetted. Precautions: While kaolin is a dry ingredient it can still harbour micro spores and mould spores can be quite common as they are ubiquitous in the air. When adding clay to a cream or water-containing product it is wise to re-evaluate your preservative efficacy and, if needed, increase the preservative dose or change to a faster acting system. The only 100% reliable way to know if your preservative system is working for you is to run Preservative Efficacy Testing or a Micro Count. | Kaolin White Clay (Bulk) | Kaolin is a naturally occuring mineral that is water-washed and centrifuged to remove impurities. Kaolin is used in a wide range of cosmetics including in foundations and BB creams for coverage, in face masks as the main clay component, in wash products as a cleansing actives, in deodorants as an absorbent element and in hand creams for a dry feel and in other colour cosmetics as a binder/ colour base. Solubility: Water Dispersible, this isn't soluble. pH of a 30% Solution: 4-5.5. Average Particle size: 2-3 microns (non-nano). | Natural Emulsifying Wax - Olive Derived (Bulk) | This emulsifier is a blend suitable for use as the only emulsifier in a cream or lotion. It is derived from a blend of vegetable oil fatty acids and wheat and oat proteins and helps to emulsify and thicken a cream. Features Include: Self-emulsifying system for O/W cream and lotion. | Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (Bulk) | Form: Powder/Flake. Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is an anionic surfactant derived from coconut fatty acid and sustainable palm that are used in many cosmetic and personal care products. In particular, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is used in the preparation of skin cleansing products such as soaps and washes as well as in shampoos and other hair cleansing products. By helping water to mix with oil and dirt, this surfactant is great at rinsing dirt away from the skin and hair leaving both feeling fresh and clean. Activity Level: Minimum of 85% surfactant solids with up to 15% free fatty acids and some residual water. Material Origin: A reaction between Coconut Fatty Acid and Sodium Isethionate. Sodium Isethinonate is created via a reaction between Sodium Hydroxide (lye), Sodium Bisulfide and Ethylene Oxide.It is made from sustainable palm oil. Applications: Use in skin and hair cleansing preparations. Use Levels: Up to 53% as supplied in rinse off formulations and up to 17% in leave-on. How to use: As this is a dry surfactant it can be blended into a dry formulation such as a dry shampoo, bath bomb, powdered facial cleanser or equivalent or can be added to the water phase of a standard, water based cleansing product (shampoo, shaving product, cleanser etc). Caution: This ingredient has quite a low water solubility so it is far better placed in a creamy shampoo base rather than clear.
