| Glyceryl Caprylate (Bulk) | INCI Name: Glyceryl Caprylate. Benefits: Antimicrobial, skin conditioning, viscosity modifying. Applications: Naturally Derived preservative system, skin conditioning. Origin: Plant (Coconut/ Palm). Solubility: Slightly soluble in water. Use Level: 0.3-1%. General Information: Glyceryl Caprylate has an excellent efficacy against bacteria and yeast and as such makes a great preservative for skin care. It works at pH between 4.5-7 and is approved for use in the EU, US and Japan. The ingredient can be added to the water phase of an emulsion where it will melt at temperatures over 30C. It can be heated up to 80C without problem and is also compatible with surfactant solutios and alcohol based products. .... In those formulations it is wise to stick to 0.5% or less and to check whether, at this level, the ingredient is still providing adequate preservation. Group: Preservatives. | Kaolin White Australian Clay (Bulk) | Kaolin is a widely used clay for cosmetic purposes. It won't swell or thicken in water like bentonite clay does so it does require suspending in a water-based product using either a thickening gel agent or an emulsifier. Kaolin is commonly used as the base for clay masks where it provides good coverage and drying capacity. It it common to use Kaolin as a base clay and then add specialist, more active clays over the top of this to provide the activity. Use Levels: 0.5-50% Typically but can be applied to the skin in any concentration once wetted. Precautions: While kaolin is a dry ingredient it can still harbour micro spores and mould spores can be quite common as they are ubiquitous in the air. When adding clay to a cream or water-containing product it is wise to re-evaluate your preservative efficacy and, if needed, increase the preservative dose or change to a faster acting system. The only 100% reliable way to know if your preservative system is working for you is to run Preservative Efficacy Testing or a Micro Count. | White French Clay (Bulk) | White French Clay is a great multi-purpose clay, especially useful in formulas for sensitive and dry skin types. Great for face and body masks. Kaolinite or kaolin clays are reasonably good drawing agents as they pull toxins from the skin. Kaolin is often used as a base for clay masks due to it being well tolerated by most people. 100% Natural mineral which is allowed to be used in COSMOS formulas. Appearance: White fine powder. Origin: Mineral. Particle Size: <40 micron. Manufacturing Process: The clay undergoes a mechanical treatment, without any chemical process. It is crushed and dried. Formulation Tips: 5 - 40% in masks. Blends well with other clays. For best results, wet into the water phase prior to the addition of thickeners or oil phase.
