| Urea | Urea has long been used in skincare for its unique combination of keratolytic and powerful hydrating properties. This keratolytic (exfoliating) property can be used in cosmetics to help with the rapid turnover of skin cells leading to the improvement of dry and scaly skin. Urea is also part of your skin's "Natural Moisturising Factor" (NMF). The NMF being composed of Lactic Acid and Lactate Salts (usually Sodium Lactate), Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid (PCA), Urea, Metal Ions, Sugars and Amino Acids. This makes urea both a humectant and moisturizer that promotes rehydration of the skin and helps to replenish natural moisture content of the skin. On top of this, it acts as an anti-inflammatory agent on skin that may have a damaged barrier function.
