| Aloe Vera [200:1] Powder - Fruit & Herbal Powder Extracts (Bulk) | This is a 200:1 powdered aloe which means that to re-constitute it so that it is a single strength Aloe Liquid you need to add only 0.5g of Aloe Powder to 99.5g of Water (0.5% to 99.5%). The Aloe Powder will completely dissolve into water but will not form a gel. This is because the pulverising and powder processing breaks up the complex sugar chains into smaller chain lengths that can no longer form a gel. This does not impact in the performance of the Aloe in your product though as the minerals and moisturising properties remain. To thicken your Aloe Water we recommend adding something like Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan, Hydroxyethyl Cellulose or Carbomer. These thickeners will swell in water to form a gel-like base that can then be used as a facial serum base or just as a soothing Aloe Gel. Otherwise we do sell a ready-made aloe gel. In addition to thickning the Aloe Water the water will also need preserving. We have a range of preservatives available to suit a wide range of ingredient philosophies and product asperations. | Green French Clay (Bulk) | A conditioning and nourishing clay for all skin types. Green French Clay is especially useful in formulas for sebum control. Great for face and body masks. Green French Clay has a mixed mineral origin: Kaolinite or kaolin clays can be coloured if the surrounding soil is rich in minerals. Some of these minerals have beneficial properties for the skin while others don't so much. All Kaolinites are reasonably good drawing agents as they pull toxins from the skin. Kaolin is often used as a base for clay masks due to it being well tolerated by most people. | Salicylic Acid (Bulk) | Salicylic Acid is a restricted active and can be dangeous or even toxic if used innappropriately. Some people have salicylate allergies and can react to products containing this chemistry. Information: This additive is used in skin-care products for treating acne and pimple-prone skin, as well as various skin problems, such as warts, corns, calluses and psoriasis. It is also commonly used in dandruff shampoos. This is because of the acid's ability to cause skin cells to slough off, facilitating new skin cell growth, unclogging pores and removing overgrown skin cells. Usage Instructions: A maximum level of 2% is permitted in adult formulations that are to be left on the skin and 3% as a max for rinse off products. The ingredient is not to be used in products targeting children under the age of three except as part of the preservative or shampoo. Formulating Tips: Salicylic acid can be very tricky to add into an emulsion formulation (A cream or lotion) as it is not that soluble in water or oils. One option is to neutralise it into sodium salicylate by reacting it with Sodium Hydroxide. This will fizz in water until the reaction is complete, the salt is just as effective for the skin as the acid but has less solubility issues. Otherwise you can try dispersing it beforehand into a suitable solvent. Propylene Glycol and glycerine can help as can adding what is known as a hydrotrope (to improve solubility).
